Pokemon Cards – The Right Way to Trade Them

There is a wrong way and a right way to trade Pokemon cards. Many people go about trading cards the wrong way and frustrate the person they just traded with, or end up distraught themselves. This happens all too often, yet most folks do not realize exactly why or how a bad trade occurs.

Whether the unfairly treated party realizes they were gypped at that current time or even just 10 minutes later, they most likely will not be able to do a trade back, as a majority Pokemon card players will not agree to that. That is why it is so important to know how to trade Pokemon cards correctly.

If you abide by the following five rules of Pokemon card trading, you will never again be caught on the wrong side of a deal.

1. Do Not Create Elaborate Deals
By this, I mean do not trade 20 cards for 1 or 2 cards. Try to keep your trades in ratios of 1 to 1. Some of the worst trades arise when one person has an extraordinarily rare card and the other party offers several dozen not-so-rare cards for it. One person in this deal is bound to be ripped off.

Now obviously there are some cards that are worth more than others of the same rarity, but the closer you can keep the trade to one card for one card, the better your odds are at receiving a fair deal.

2. Never Feel Forced
Do not feel as though you are obliged to complete a trade; if you do not feel comfortable about it, just pick up your cards and walk away. No one is forcing you to trade your Pokemon cards. Only do it if you feel good about the trade.

Even if you do feel confident about your trade you should still adhere to rule number 3, which is…

3. Ask for a Second Opinion
Ask one of your friends what they think about the trade. The person you are trading with should do the same. This is a great idea to make sure you two are not blatantly missing out on something. You may have forgotten that a certain card has recently risen in value, thus making an unfair trade.

The more people who weigh their thoughts on the trade, the more equal it is bound to be.

4. Trade With People the Same Age as You
Some of the most lopsided trades I have ever seen occur when an older individual trades with a younger person. The youngster often does not realize the value of their cards, and the older player tries to capitalize on that.

If you trade with people the same age as you, you are far less likely to be hustled.

5. Be Happy About the Trade
Even if you have established a fair trade, if you are not content about it, then don’t do it! Just because each of you are getting equal value does not mean the trade has to be completed. There may be sentimental value in your cards which cannot be compensated for.

Only complete the trade if you are utterly pleased with the proposed deal.

In closing, as long as you follow those five rules of trading Pokemon cards, you should never have an issue again. It is super simple to prevent a bad trade from occurring with this knowledge. Make sure to teach your friends these rules, so that they never fall into the trap of a bad trade again either.
